Description

Join us as we get things started! We'll share important information and other tips to get the best out of your first day at WPCampus 2021 Online.

Agenda

  • A huge thank you to our wonderful presenters, sponsors, organizers, and volunteers.
  • Our sponsors for this year's event include:
  • All sessions and activities for the event will be captioned, including all session videos and events in Zoom. If, at any time, you have an accessibility-related issue, please use the Help button on the website or send an email to accessibility@wpcampus.org.
  • Be sure to check out the event schedule.
    • Use the filters, explore the tracks and topics, and add sessions to your personal calendar so you don't miss them.
  • Review of today's schedule
    • Here at WPCampus, we enjoy starting each conference day with a block of “lightning talks”.
      • Lightning talks are short presentations, about 10-12 minutes, designed to pique your interest in a topic.
      • We include a variety of topics so there is a little something for everyone. But it's also a great way to possibly get a bit of information on a topic you might not have attended on its own.
      • We also love that we start the day with everyone together in the same track.
    • The last session block for today will begin at 5 pm Eastern with a block of community discussions.
      • Our community discussions are a great way for you to get involved in the event and add your voice. We hope you’ll join one of those discussions and share your experiences and questions.
    • We’re thrilled about this evening’s social activity. We hope you’ll join us at 8 pm Eastern for an online tour of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture
      • Join our personal tour guide, Timothy, and dive into the richness and diversity of the African American experience and how it shaped the USA. Starting from the history of slavery, moving through the 70s & 80s pop culture, and ending with current Black artists.
      • The tour will last 60-90 minutes and take place in Zoom. You will be able to find the Zoom information on the schedule.
      • Please keep in mind that we are paying for the tour by headcount. So if you're not planning to attend the tour, please do not join the Zoom meeting.
  • Review of platform features
    • For each session, you will be able to live chat with other attendees
    • We ask that you submit any questions you have for the presenters using the Q&A tool embedded on the session webpage.
    • At the end of each session, we ask that you provide session feedback, which is really helpful for the presenters, the organizers, and the community as a whole.
  • We will also be giving away door prizes and here is how you enter:
  • If you’re interested in a fun, soft event t-shirt, you can go online and order the official WPCampus 2021 event t-shirt
  • One of our WPCampus traditions is to use the “previously allocated to swag” portion of our event planning budget to support a nonprofit organization.
  • In case you missed any of the hidden messages in our Slack workspace, a big piece of information we’re thrilled to share is that, COVID-19 pending, WPCampus will be going to Tulane University in New Orleans next July for WPCampus 2022!
    • Thank you to everyone who voted on which dates are best for them.
    • Right now, “No preference” takes an astounding lead in the survey. All of the specific dates are pretty much tied.
    • We currently have all of the dates booked on their calendars and hope to finalize them soon.
    • Make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter to be notified when we announce the selected event dates.
  • We ask that you be ever mindful of the WPCampus Code of Conduct
    • We at WPCampus seek to provide a friendly, safe environment in which all participants can engage in productive dialogue, sharing, and learning with each other in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
    • We take our code of conduct very seriously. We require all attendees to adhere to our code of conduct and ask that you report any violations to www.wpcampus.org/contact.
  • Please use the “Help” button on the website if you have any technical issues with the website
  • There will be room moderators in each session that will be monitoring the session chat for any questions you might have about the event.
  • We invite you to also join the #2021-attendees channel in the WPCampus Slack workspace for any general event-related questions and discussions with other attendees.
  • Happy learning!
